ART EXHIBITION IN SKALA ERESOS

Theophrastus, the Association of Eresians, will present an art exhibition by Eleni Damopoulou entitled Handmade poetry at the Eresos Tourism Organization Hall, in Skala Eresos, from 10 to 13 August.
Eleni Damopoulou presents her current work, titled Handmade poetry, where she composes words or phrases of ambiguous character, expressing an inner need to deconstruct and reassemble their meaning in visual terms. The viewer becomes a participant in this process and the work functions as a message open to personal, multiple interpretations. The texture of the city walls, the interplay of the slogan, the trace of protest, of love, mixed with advertising, football fans scribbles or political propaganda, contain a visual adventure that constitutes an everyday landscape that she assimilates in her work.
As the artist says: “Either through the pure shape of words, or by altering the structure of the form, I bring out the symbolism of the letters and the fragmentary meaning of the hidden information. By intervening in the paper with tears and collage, hiding and reconstructing the image, I create an enigma/commentary on the paradox of life. This approach extends to my work with ceramics, where words are integrated into three-dimensional works in clay and porcelain. Through this new material, improvising spontaneously, I redefine my visual language in a game-like adventure between form, shape, colour and texture”.

Eleni Damopoulou studied painting at the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where she graduated with honors in 1994. With a scholarship from the State Scholarship Foundation, she received a Masters in painting from Edinburgh College of Art - Heriot Watt University.
Since 1990 he has participated in a series of exhibitions in Greece and abroad. Since 2015 she is the Supervisor of the Art Department of the Primary School of Psychiko College of the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation.
